City proclaims Atlanta Youth Climate Action Day and funds Goodr grocery at William Walker Rec

The Atlanta City Council formally declared Dec. 1, 2025, Atlanta Youth Climate Action Day, highlighting the mayor’s youth climate initiatives and the city’s selection for Bloomberg Philanthropies' Youth Climate Action Fund. The mayor’s Office of Sustainability said the city invested $150,000 into 30 youth-led projects in 2024–25 and is dedicating seats on the Climate Resilience Advisory Board to youth leaders.

Council recognized youth leaders and partner organizations, including 20 First Century Leaders and local student projects such as an aquaponics system at Campbell High School, and read a proclamation describing the program’s aims and funding sources.

Separately the council approved a donation not to exceed $135,000 to continue the free Goodr grocery at William Walker Recreation Center (the adopted language amended "Goodr Incorporated" to "Goodr Foundation" in the ordinance). Staff cited 2025 program metrics—about 1,600 individuals served and roughly 40,000 pounds of food distributed—when recommending continuity of the partnership.
