Hammond board waives late fee for My Guilty Pleasure LLC after owner says she stopped operating in city

At a late-business-license hearing the Hammond City Board of Works heard from Amira Miles, owner of My Guilty Pleasure LLC, who said she has not operated in the city since 2023 and that the business-license renewal form did not require her to notify the city that she ceased operations.

Miles told the board she had rented a ghost kitchen from the HDC but never used it and later stopped the lease; she produced a notice to HDC dated October 2024 indicating she would no longer be associated with HDC. HDC staff present said that because Miles' notice came in October 2024 she would still owe for the 2024–25 license year but would not owe for the 2026 renewal. Board members asked whether the city had written proof showing Miles continued operating inside Hammond; staff indicated none was on file.

Given Miles’ testimony and the apparent absence of contradictory city documentation, a board member moved to waive the late fee. The motion was seconded and the board voted to dismiss the matter and waive the fee, recording unanimous 'aye' votes.

The board instructed staff to note the dismissal and proceed accordingly; no further enforcement action was recorded on the matter during the meeting.
