Huron board approves conditional-use permit for Airbnb at 1453 9th Street SW

The Huron Board of Adjustments voted unanimously to approve a conditional-use permit allowing Cole and Ashley Searing to operate an Airbnb on the second floor of a building at 1453 9th Street SW.

City planner Barry Cranston told the board the parcel is roughly five acres, the proposed short-term rental would occupy a 17-by-70 area on the second floor of a 50-by-100 building, and the joint planning commission heard the request with no comments or opposition during the public notice period. "We recommend approval," Cranston said.

Speaker 7 moved to approve the permit and the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all commissioners voting "Aye." The applicant Cole Searing was thanked for attending the hearing.

The approval allows the Searings to operate a vacation rental in an area zoned R1 where a conditional use permit is required for such activity. The board did not attach additional conditions in the hearing record. The matter was recorded as a formal action of the Board of Adjustments and the board then adjourned and the commission reconvened.
