Board discusses bus replacements and approves moving ahead on proposed USDA technology grant

Transportation: Multiple speakers reported buses aged 17–18 years and discussed fuel and maintenance cost volatility. One presenter recommended buying one bus this year and another in the next budget year. Finance staff said a typical half-reimbursement purchase would require identifying roughly $79,000–$80,000 in local funds up front; the board directed staff to research options and return with detailed numbers at the January meeting.

Technology grant: The district reviewed a proposed GRAMA/USDA submission covering interactive panels, telehealth carts and laptops—initial estimates for the package totaled about $656,000 with a district match estimate of around $85,000. Presenters stressed the district had not yet been awarded the grant and asked for approval to proceed with the submission process and preparatory steps so delivery could begin promptly if the award is made.

The board approved the request to proceed with grant planning and asked finance and grants staff to present matching-fund scenarios and procurement timelines if the district is awarded funds.
