Haysville board approves new contemporary math and two law courses for high school

The Unified School District No. 261 Board of Education unanimously approved three curriculum proposals during the December meeting, including a contemporary math course intended to provide college credit and two sequential law courses for high-school students.

Jen (presenting the proposal) described the contemporary math offering as positioned between algebra and college algebra while still allowing students to earn college credit. The Law I and Law II proposals were described as extensions of an existing Intro to Law/public safety and corrections class already offered at the high school.

Board members clarified that the new courses would not require additional staffing or paid plans, according to the presenter. Jeremy moved to approve the curriculum proposals; Tasha seconded and the board voted 5–0 in favor.

The approved courses will be added to the district's curriculum offerings; district staff said they will handle any scheduling or articulation details with partner colleges for the college-credit aspect.

What's next: staff will implement the courses in the schedule per standard curriculum adoption procedures and provide follow-up details to the board as needed.
