District outlines plan to relocate school-based health clinic to Grand Lane; targets July move

District staff provided an update on plans to evaluate and possibly relocate the school-based health clinic into the Grand Lane facility, saying the move is intended to give clinic staff more usable space, grant- and funding-eligibility and access to a playground and more of a school setting.

A structural survey identified erosion-related work on the rear/backside of the building near a creek but described the fix as minimal and said the overall structure was suitable for reuse with limited exterior repairs. Staff said they hope to target a July 1 move, but that several items must happen first, including HVAC, roofing and some flooring work.

"If we leave the WSU building in the same structure that it's in now without tearing down walls and remodeling... we can actually do this at a fraction of the cost," a district presenter said, explaining the plan to consolidate technology and learning-services functions at a single site and to avoid major interior work where possible.

Staff emphasized that bond funds identified in the bond package would be used only for heating and air and exterior work already budgeted; interior build-out costs would be covered by other district capital outlay funds. Programs such as PAT would move into the facility, the presenter said, and some double-shifting of services may be required during the transition.

Board members asked clarifying questions; staff said the plan is feasible and that they will continue coordination with facilities and contractors.

What's next: staff will continue planning, schedule necessary minor repairs, and return with further details about timing and funding allocations.
