The Needham Human Rights Committee voted unanimously to schedule its February meeting for Feb. 12 after members discussed shifting regular monthly meetings from the third Thursday to the second Thursday.
Committee members said the proposed change would free up some participants who routinely conflict with other town and committee schedules. Several members urged caution, noting that many people accepted appointments based on the committee's existing third-Thursday meeting cadence and that any permanent change should be confirmed after polling absent members.
The motion to set the February meeting for Feb. 12 was made and seconded during the Dec. 18 meeting; the chair announced the vote was unanimous. Members agreed to place a formal item on the January agenda to collect feedback from those not present and to consider a permanent schedule change for later in the year.
Next steps: the committee will circulate a Doodle poll or equivalent to all members, report the results at the January meeting, and then take a formal vote if a majority of members express support. The February meeting will proceed on Feb. 12 as adopted.
