City of Imperial announces $218,000 federal CMAQ award and updates SR‑86 beautification work

Hector Saccero, community development project manager, told the council the City of Imperial was awarded $218,000 in federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding.

Saccero said the award was approved by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Council at its Dec. 4 meeting and that the funding covers federal fiscal years 2026–28. He also updated the council on the AHSC/SR‑86 beautification project, saying contractors were working on site and were tentatively scheduled to import infill material during a planned Sunday‑night operation.

Saccero summarized the construction status as ongoing and said staff hopes the project will wrap up soon. No capital budget amendments or funding gaps were discussed in open session.

Public services staff also noted infrastructure work completed during the prior year, including delivery of a street sweeper intended to improve street sweeping services.

Next steps: staff will continue construction oversight and proceed with the project closeout schedule; council did not vote on additional funding during the meeting.
