Hardin County Schools roll out expanded elementary math pacing and common assessments

Miss Broder, the district's elementary director of instruction and curriculum, told the Hardin County Board of Education the district has revised its math pacing guide and added common assessments to strengthen K'5 math instruction.

"This year, we added common assessments. We have two common assessments that will take place during the school year for grades 3 through 5," she said, adding the district plans to expand the assessments to kindergarten through second grade next year. She described a standards continuum that highlights priority standards (dark gray) and standards reported on the report card.

Broder described ongoing foundational numeracy work with GREC since 2022, a revamped MTSS/RTI intervention process that automatically places students below a cut score into targeted reasoning and calculation interventions, and principal "math cadres" that visit other schools to observe practices and share takeaways.

She said district test scores are showing growth across math and other areas, crediting teacher collaboration, pacing changes and targeted interventions.

The board received the update; no formal action was taken.
