The Martinsville Board of Works and Safety unanimously approved updated policies and procedures for the Martinsville Fire Department on Dec. 8, 2025, adopting a package the chief described as converted to Lexipol’s legal format.
Chief Green, who presented the package, told the board the company-format policies remove items that were not legal and provide a living document that the department will update as needed. "A lot of care was taken into getting things in the legal format and making sure that we got rid of things that weren't legal," Chief Green said. He added the department will bring minor cleanups to the board as the document continues to evolve.
Board members said spot checks turned up only minor edits. One member said the changes "didn't look like there were very many changes," and moved to approve the documents. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The board did not record a roll-call tally by name in the minutes; the approval was announced as carried by voice. Officials said future minor updates would be circulated to board members after review so routine items can be processed administratively.
The action directs staff to implement the Lexipol-based policies and return any substantive or legally significant edits to the board for formal review.
