County staff, volunteers report 576 tons handled through solid-waste voucher program

County staff and volunteers described a solid-waste voucher program that helped residents dispose of large amounts of waste for free and accelerated code-enforcement resolutions.

Ian Tracy with Environmental Health said the program supports roughly 350 solid-waste code-enforcement cases annually and provides a resource for residents who lack disposal funds. Public Works staff reported more than 576 tons of material brought in through the voucher program during the first full year of 100% utilization; staff compared that volume to roughly 25 semi trucks and credited volunteers and community groups for cleanup efforts.

Commissioners thanked Mason County Garbage and volunteers, noting the program’s role in keeping county roadsides and waterways cleaner.
