Council committee moves to formalize full‑time executive assistant in clerk’s office; no salary increase

The Personal & Finance Committee recommended forwarding a substitute ordinance that moves a part-time administrative assistant position into the City Clerk's office as a full-time executive assistant with benefits, with no increase to the position's hourly rate.

City Clerk Bianca Tirado explained the change responds to operational needs: the position manages website content, branding, press releases and community engagement for the council and clerk’s office. "This will establish a full time executive assistant position with a cap of $59.07 an hour and adding benefits," Tirado said, adding the new arrangement will allow the position to have paid benefits because full-time status is required.

Council members praised the clerks' office work but also raised questions about pay equity and how this appointment interacts with other staff titles and compensation across departments. Councilmembers asked for clarity on duties and whether the role would support individual council district pages; Tirado said the new executive assistant could manage council district pages and that the office would coordinate with councilmembers on expectations.

Jordan Geiger spoke in favor of the change, saying the clerk's office has had capacity constraints. The committee voted to forward the substitute (listed as substitute bill 7,925 in committee materials) to the Committee of the Whole with a favorable recommendation (roll call: 4 ayes).
