Committee tables rewrite of professional staff hiring policy for further review

The committee questioned substantial edits in policy GCFB, which appear to refocus the document toward administrative hiring and diverge from established 'A' policies governing professional staff. Speaker 7 argued the blue (proposed) language effectively creates a different policy, and Speaker 6 recommended staff consult Charlotte Bates at the Maine School Management Association to determine whether one or two policies are appropriate.

Members expressed concern that removing or changing language could alter board involvement in hiring; several said the blue language omits sections on board participation. Speaker 7 moved to table the item until staff can reconcile the discrepancy between the district's existing language and the MSMA-supplied updates; the motion was seconded and carried (no recorded opposing votes). Staff will return with examples and recommended fixes.
