Board finalizes superintendent candidate profile and agrees on $235,000 base salary range

Board members reviewed a candidate profile drafted from survey responses and community stakeholder meetings; the profile emphasizes a student‑centered leader with demonstrated integrity, accessibility, strong financial acumen and the ability to attract and retain staff and students.

President May summarized survey participation (23 students, 168 staff, 64 parents/guardians, 33 community members and 58 in‑person stakeholder meeting attendees) and highlighted priorities that included academic success, accountability, approachability and ethical standards.

The board discussed compensation parameters. President May proposed a base salary of $235,000 with a planned negotiation range above that base (board members debated a $15,000–$20,000 range). The board coalesced around the $235,000 base with a $15,000 range (i.e., a top of $250,000) and noted benefits and other contract fringes (car allowance, bonuses) will be handled in negotiations. "So then we... we know we aren't going higher than 250, but we're not going below 235,000," the president said while summarizing the group's preference.

No employment contract was approved at the meeting; the action sets parameters for the upcoming search posting and negotiations. The candidate profile will be posted in January as part of the formal recruitment process. Administration will return with final posting language and any proposed supplemental compensation language for board review.
