Orange County School Board approves personnel moves, two attendance waivers, field trip and $75,000 computer‑science grant

The Orange County School Board approved a slate of routine and personnel actions at its Dec. 9 meeting, including personnel appointments and transfers discussed in closed session, two waivers of compulsory attendance under the religious exemption, an out‑of‑state student field trip and a $75,000 supplemental grant for computer‑science leader training.

The board certified the closed session with a roll‑call certification that passed 3‑0, confirming that discussions were limited to the subjects enumerated in the motion. The board then voted by voice to accept the personnel agenda that the administration presented, which the superintendent described as including resignations, new hires, salary adjustments, transfers and coaching and extracurricular appointments.

Public business votes included approval of two attendance waivers filed as case numbers PP2025‑19 and PP2025‑20. The superintendent moved to approve the waivers “under the religious exemption,” and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

The board also approved an out‑of‑state overnight field trip request for students to attend the International Career and Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta in April so fundraising and planning could begin. Separately, the board accepted and appropriated a $75,000 computer science leaders grant for fiscal year 2026 to increase both revenues and expenditures by the same amount.

Several routine consent items were approved by voice vote earlier in the meeting, including minutes from Oct. 20 and Nov. 7, 2025, the November financial report, monthly operating bills and the food service report.

Next steps: the administration will implement personnel actions approved in closed session and begin fundraising and logistical planning for the ICDC trip. The supplemental grant will be recorded in the FY2026 budget and used for the computer‑science leaders cohort described by staff.
