PCAP highlights $40,000 in local charitable giving and ongoing community programs

Sandy Romero, communications manager for the project, summarized local community-support work at the Dec. 10 Citizens Advisory Commission meeting, saying the PCAP team gave $40,000 this year to local charitable organizations and supported local education and outreach programs.

Romero said the project has focused on three areas: health and welfare, STEM education and support for local schools and scholarships at Colorado State University Pueblo. She said PCAP’s employee club supported 43 families through a holiday program at Avondale Elementary and that the project collected 87 units of blood this year, an amount the presentation estimated could have helped save 261 lives.

Romero added that the project’s charitable giving and employee programs would continue while the project remains active and that staff will keep coordinating with local partners.

Next steps: Romero invited questions and said staff will continue updates on community programs as the project proceeds through closure and demolition.
