Everman council adopts joint boundary ordinance with Fort Worth; effect contingent on Fort Worth approval

The Everman City Council approved Ordinance 845 on Dec. 9, a joint ordinance and boundary agreement with the city of Fort Worth that would annex a designated parcel into Everman if Fort Worth also approves the identical ordinance.

Speaker 1 presented the ordinance and Speaker 2 moved for approval; the council polled places 1–6 and the Mayor and recorded unanimous 'Aye' votes. Speaker 5 clarified that while Everman approved its portion tonight, the ordinance will not be effective until Fort Worth acts on the agreement at a future meeting. "It will not be effective until the City of Fort Worth obviously approves it," Speaker 5 said.

Staff also advised that once annexed, Everman would be responsible for maintenance of the newly annexed road segment and that the city had a verbal commitment from Commissioner Miles’ office to help with repairs and reconstruction of a segment of Enon. The council approved the ordinance by unanimous roll call.

Next steps: Fort Worth consideration; if Fort Worth signs the joint ordinance, Everman’s responsibility for maintenance and any associated capital repairs will begin as described in the agreement.
