Scott County director of schools announces resignation, effective June 30, 2026

Bill Hall, director of schools for Scott County, told the Board of Education on Dec. 11 that he will resign effective June 30, 2026. "I will be resigning, as a director of schools effective on 06/30/2026," Hall said, and added that serving the district has been "an honor and a privilege."

Hall told the board he has served 37½ years in education, including roughly 31½ years in Scott County Schools, and described himself as the longest-serving superintendent in East Tennessee. He said the decision was personal and intended as a transition "for the betterment for me and our schools."

Board members offered public thanks and tributes during adjournment, citing Hall's work as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent. Several asked to meet with Hall and staff in a public meeting to "work out any loose ends on the contract." A board member noted Hall's current contract extends to 06/30/2026.

Following Hall's announcement the board made a motion to accept the resignation, seconded the motion, and recorded a roll-call vote with the members present announcing "Aye." The board also noted plans to discuss contractual details at a future public meeting before the next work session.

Hall said the district will begin reporting progress on its strategic plan in January and reminded the board that the state report card was scheduled for release on Dec. 18; he also noted an abbreviated school day on Dec. 19 with dismissal at 10:00 a.m.

Next steps: Board members expect to schedule a public meeting or a pre-work-session meeting to review contract details and transition planning with Hall and staff.
