Council authorizes Axon taser contract and ALPR activation for police fleet

The council approved two public‑safety procurement items on Dec. 3: a five‑year contract with Axon to supply 22 Taser 7 devices plus accessories and cartridges for a total of $105,811.20, and a 49‑month contract with Accent to enable automatic license plate reader (ALPR) functionality on three existing squad cameras for $33,767.10.

Both items were reported out of the public services and safety committee and funded through the capital equipment budget across the 2026–2030 budget years. Committee chairs noted that purchasing through these contracts may be more cost‑effective than installing equipment on individual vehicles and that payments for the ALPR implementation were described as being split across four annual payments.

Council members asked no substantive questions and both motions passed unanimously (9‑0). The ALPR item includes scheduled payments of approximately $8,441.76–$8,441.78 in 2026–2029 (a clerk noted a housekeeping correction moving a year from 2029 to 2030 in the capital schedule).
