Peoria County board approves 2026 excess insurance renewal; carrier changes recommended

Peoria County approved its 2026 excess insurance renewals with total premiums cited by staff as just over $1.4 million, a roughly $97,000 (7.1%) increase over 2025. Angela, who presented the item, said the county worked with broker Arthur J. Gallagher to market multiple lines including general liability, property, cyber and medical professional coverage.

Staff recommended moving the county's general liability coverage to a new carrier, Metis, which would provide $10 million in liability coverage; Angela said that option carried a premium of just over $700,000. For cyber liability, staff recommended Coalition, which quoted a significantly lower premium and would reduce the per-event deductible from $250,000 to $50,000 while providing an enhanced cybersecurity services program.

Angela said a decrease in the medical professional premium reflected that the county's dental services are being transferred to another group (not a county-run operation) and she noted the 2026 premiums include coverage for planned forensic pathologists in the coroner's office. On a question about pathologist liability, Angela said coverage would address autopsies for legal investigations and expert testimony under the medical professional policy.

Board members voted to carry the insurance renewals as recommended.
