The Coffee County Board of Education approved its consent agenda by voice vote during the Nov. 20 regular meeting. The presiding officer called for a vote after a motion and second and stated ‘‘All in favor?’’ before noting the motion carried.
Items on the consent agenda included minutes from a recent work session, the district's financial reports reviewed at length in work session, and a custodial supplement that the state is sending through to 13 custodial employees currently employed by the district. The board also authorized a furniture purchase for Satilla Elementary School to replace pieces damaged in Hurricane Elaine; the presenter said the purchase will be reimbursed by the district's insurance carrier.
The board also reviewed changes to an employee tobacco-use policy; the item will remain on the agenda for 30 days (i.e., be posted/held for consideration) rather than being adopted immediately so the district can meet grant-monitoring suggestions.
Later in the meeting the board moved and approved personnel recognitions and personal recommendations by voice vote. A board member asked about whether the district had heard further details about a state-level proposal for teacher pay increases proposed by Governor Kemp, noting that State School Superintendent Richard Woods had advocated continued raises; no state response or local decision was reported during the meeting.
