Brockton City Council confirms firefighter hires and several personnel appointments

The Brockton City Council on Nov. 24 confirmed multiple personnel appointments, including two new firefighters and a special police officer, and accepted a mayoral recommendation for an alternate on the Council on Aging.

Fire Chief Nardelli introduced Zachary R. Hopkins, a Brockton resident and eight-year Army veteran, and Chloe Livingston, a recent Coast Guard veteran now residing at 197 Cole Road in Brockton. The council voted to appoint both candidates after taking the item under suspension of the rules. The clerk called the roll for the confirmation vote and the appointments were adopted.

Separately, the council confirmed Francis J. Zonowski as a special police officer following a favorable finance committee report and recorded a roll-call confirmation (affirmative votes noted). Councilor Lally moved for reconsideration of an appointment earlier in the meeting; the motion for reconsideration failed.

The council also referred the mayor’s nomination of Faye Slayton as an alternate to the Brockton Council on Aging (three-year term ending November 2028) to the Finance Committee. No public opposition was recorded during the hearings for these personnel items.
