Council workshop previews annexations, right‑of‑way and zoning changes for industrial parks

City planning staff briefed the council on multiple proposed annexations and a related zoning case that together are intended to enlarge industrial capacity at the city’s northern edge.

Staff described the largest item as a roughly 800‑acre annexation for a North Industrial Park, saying the annexation is intended to expand the industrial park and that a zoning case and development review will follow. The presentation also included a right‑of‑way annexation for segments of Bobwhite Road needed to create a continuous route tied to a previous Rowan expansion, and a zoning change request to move a parcel from agricultural use to light industrial near Power Road and Lorraine Avenue to extend Synergy Park.

Planning staff told the council that the annexations and the rezoning will return for second and final readings on Dec. 4 and that a follow‑up zoning case and development review will be processed through the normal review pipeline.

Council members asked routine clarifying questions about parcel locations, surrounding uses and the development review schedule. Staff said the requests were recommended for approval by the planning commission and will be on the council’s Dec. 4 agenda for second reading.
