Shenandoah Hills wind turbines erected; county asks about reclaiming gravel

A MidAmerican Energy representative told Page County commissioners that construction at the Shenandoah Hills wind project is in final closeout stages, with turbines erected and some already expected to be producing power.

“Kelsey” said the turbines are “all erected. Some of them should be spinning now,” and that crews are removing construction trailers and completing site restoration. Kelsey said the project team is doing “project closeout type activities” and will monitor weather before completing remaining tasks.

Commissioners asked specifically about a Level B access road where gravel had been pushed off during construction and whether that material could be reused. Kelsey said the project looks first for internal uses — such as reinforcing turbine access roads — and then works with county staff and landowners to identify other uses.

A commissioner asked about a transformer needed for the project; Kelsey said the unit remained in Kansas City and that MidAmerican staff were tracking its shipment.

The update included no formal county action; commissioners thanked the MidAmerican representative and moved on to other items.
