Avon council honors coach, hears county award presentation and sets calendar

The Avon Town Council began its Nov. 20 meeting with recognition of the Avon Youth Sports Coach of the Year. Justin Thompson, sports director for Avon Youth Sports, said the award drew votes across more than 60 coaches from 900-plus volunteers and announced Tiffany Green as the 2025 winner. Tiffany Green told the council, "It's pretty humbling to be here," and spoke about coaching as a continual process of evaluation.

During the first public comment period, resident Dave Cox presented a copy of a county award for a youth diversion program involving seven cooperating government entities and said the juvenile judge reported the program "has directly reduced referrals to juvenile court by almost 30%." The statement was presented as the judge's reported observation.

The council also approved Resolution 2025-32 adopting the 2026 meeting schedule (regular meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays; first and third in November and December), heard an introduction to additional appropriations (Ordinance 2025-30) with no public comment, and accepted the introduction of the 2026 holiday ordinance (Ordinance 2025-31) with no changes from the prior year.

The meeting closed with council members offering Thanksgiving wishes and praising the Avon Marching Band’s recent national successes; the council adjourned and listed its next meeting for Dec. 4.
