Select board liaison urges CTE tours be scheduled before Dec. 1 so students can apply to Upper Cape Tech

During public participation at the Nov. 20 meeting, Jared Chadwick — a Wareham select board member and liaison to the school committee — said he reviewed a draft CTE tour policy and recommended adding a firm deadline so students could learn about Upper Cape Technical School and meet UCET’s Jan. 5 registration deadline. Chadwick asked that tours take place before Dec. 1 each year so students could consider options and apply in time.

Committee members discussed inserting a sentence to require Wareham Public Schools to provide an in‑school tour opportunity for all eighth graders prior to Dec. 1 each year. Members noted the proposed change was procedural (ensuring timing) and agreed the committee should discuss the policy tonight and schedule a vote at the next meeting (policy procedure prevents same‑night adoption of a new policy). Paladino and other members said the timing requirement was reasonable and unlikely to change practice, but useful to codify.

No formal amendment was adopted at the meeting; the policy will return to the committee for formal review and a vote at the next meeting per policy rules.
