Elaine Holmes sworn in as Indio mayor as council honors outgoing Mayor Glenn Miller

Elaine Holmes took the oath of office and was sworn in as mayor of Indio during a ceremonial portion of the City Council meeting held in the new Indio City Hall. Council and staff read a resolution establishing the rotational policy for mayor and mayor pro tem; Holmes responded “I do” when administered the oath and accepted the gavel from outgoing Mayor Glenn Miller.

Council members and staff paid tribute to Miller’s tenure, citing projects completed or advanced under his leadership including a new police station, library and multiple downtown improvements. Miller and other council members thanked staff and residents for support; Miller encouraged continued investment in local businesses and community events. The council presented the outgoing mayor with a gift and invited the public to a short reception outside the chamber.

The reorganization was procedural and required no formal vote. The city noted Resolution No. 9,507 establishes the rotation policy referenced by staff.
