The Human Resources & Government Operations Committee approved several policy changes affecting county operations.
A revised workplace-violence prevention and threat-reporting policy was presented as required by the Department of Labor; staff said facility inspections are complete (except two slated for December) and that union representatives concurred the updated policy brings the county into compliance.
The committee also approved a new policy (101.411) establishing public-space designations on county property; staff said this model was adapted from neighboring counties to clarify where sensitive information should be protected and to use signage rather than broad restrictions. The presenter said signage costs would be minimal and could be covered within existing budgets.
Separately, the committee introduced Local Law 7 (2025) to amend Local Law 9 of 2007 by eliminating county residency requirements; the motion carried in committee and will proceed to the full board for final action.
