Commissioners approve higher per‑diem for KDOC inmates at Saline County jail

Saline County commissioners approved a motion to set the jail per‑diem rate charged to Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) inmates at $109.33, with the change effective Dec. 1.

The sheriff told the commission that the minutes from a prior meeting did not show formal approval of the rate and asked the board to adopt the figure so it "would be no surprise to anybody." A commissioner moved to raise the rate for KDOC inmates to $109.33 and another seconded; the commission approved the motion by voice vote.

The sheriff framed the vote as an administrative confirmation: he said the rate had been used but not formally adopted in the minutes. Commissioners agreed to make the change effective Dec. 1 and the sheriff thanked the board, saying he hoped not to return on the issue for several years.

No further procedural conditions were attached at the meeting; staff will implement the effective date in jail billing.
