Board approves updated Title I parent, family and community engagement plan required under ESSA

Assistant Superintendent Whelan Bates presented the updated Title I parent, family, and community engagement plan required under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Bates described minor updates and the district’s new parent center, which has hosted about 35 pre-K classes and roughly 350 parents and students for support services and orientation.

Board members reviewed the information and approved the plan by motion (mover Mister Bullard, second Miss Darby) and electronic vote. Bates said the update is routine to maintain ESSA compliance and to centralize services (technology assistance, gradebook support, and program sign-ups) for families.

Board members thanked staff for making the information available and noted they had received hard copies for review after the Thanksgiving break.
