Agency facilitated controlled‑burn training near Sankey Road with fire academies and UC Davis cadets

The board heard about a recent controlled‑burn training exercise arranged by the agency. Executive Director Jason Campbell described a ‘‘hot demolition’’ near Sankey Road: a house purchased by Safeco was used in a controlled burn to give fire academy cadets real‑world training.

Campbell said the Pleasant Grove fire academy partnered with other departments to allow cadets to participate. He said UC Davis indicated ‘‘this is the first time they’ve been able to have their cadets participate in 20 years for an active fire training scenario.’’ The agency framed the exercise as a collaboration to provide vital hands‑on experience for trainees.

No safety incidents were reported in the meeting record. A board member suggested the agency consider using the AVDIS property for similar training if a willing participant is available.
