Board authorizes superintendent to finish negotiations on 10.1-acre sale to Bonneville Power Administration

The North Bend School District board voted on Nov. 13 to authorize the superintendent, with the board chair’s approval, to negotiate and finalize sale terms for a 10.1-acre surplus parcel in ongoing talks with the Bonneville Power Administration.

Staff reviewed executive-session negotiations and said the district asked BPA to increase the sale price (a counter in the mid-to-high millions was discussed in negotiation emails), add a trail system and landscaping, and establish a road-maintenance agreement that would limit construction traffic during school drop-off and pick-up hours. The transcript records district staff raising a candidate price range from about $6.95 million up to $7.10 million in a counteroffer during those discussions.

A motion to authorize the superintendent to finish negotiations and execute the deal with the board chair’s concurrence passed by voice vote; the superintendent will report final sale terms back to the full board. One director voiced opposition in the meeting, stating the property is in their neighborhood; staff noted they had been working through final contract language and compensation terms with BPA prior to concluding a final sale.

The motion instructs staff to be consistent with applicable state law and to present final sale details to the board after execution.
