Council approves emergency VFD replacement and sewer and easement contracts for water/sewer projects

Georgetown’s City Council voted Nov. 24 to approve several water and sewer items brought by staff to address urgent repairs, maintenance and project pay applications.

Chase, representing the Municipal Water & Sewer Service, requested a $15,900 purchase order to Lovo Inc. to replace a variable frequency drive at Wastewater Treatment Plant 2 that controls an aerator needed for treatment. “This is a necessary piece of equipment… it needs to be completed ASAP,” Chase said. The council approved the purchase order by voice vote.

The council also approved a $33,008.40 contract with Universal Solutions Inc. to dig and replace a section of vitrified clay sewer pipe in the Church Street/Water Street area after staff said the line could not be inspected via camera and had deteriorated. Universal had the lowest unit-price bid under existing contract arrangements.

Separately, the council approved $11,600 to Hazen for surveying and easement exhibits related to an accelerated portion of the South Side water-storage and distribution upgrades (the Etter Lane breakout project). Staff said four easements are required and that Bluegrass Baptist Church agreed to pay for the incremental cost of separating the smaller breakout project from the larger program.

Finally the council approved a $236,172.45 pay application to Judy Construction for work completed as part of ongoing wastewater treatment upgrades; staff said the project is progressing toward substantial completion in 2026. All items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
