Commission grants chairman authority to sign airport improvement program certificate; local match covered by contractor penalty

Weston County commissioners authorized the chairman to sign the state Airport Improvement Program certificate of grant and aid on Nov. 18 and confirmed the local share will be covered by contractual penalty funds tied to a delayed hangar project.

Commissioner (Speaker 6) explained that because the hangar project missed its guaranteed completion date, the contractor faced a penalty; that amount more than covers the county’s local fee of $22.40 for the airport grant. A motion to authorize the chairman’s signature was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.

Commissioners instructed staff to complete the signature and related paperwork so the county may accept the amended grant and move forward with the airport improvement schedule.

Next steps: county staff will sign the certificate and file the amended grant paperwork with state grant authorities.
