Mehlville R-IX highlights student awards and school achievements

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Hogg and student leaders opened the Mehlville R‑IX Board of Education meeting by highlighting a string of student and staff recognitions across the district.

Dr. Jeff Hogg said the district had several music students named to elite ensembles, including two Melville High School students selected for the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, and multiple All‑Suburban Band honorees. He also noted theater productions at the high schools and multiple athletic achievements, including district semifinal and final appearances.

Student advisors from Oakville and Mehlville high schools gave school‑level reports. Oakville student advisor Ayla Ramich congratulated fall athletes and described a two‑day career fair organized by school counselors. Mehlville student advisor Aliyah Krause highlighted marching band successes, a high-performing cross‑country team, and students’ participation in honor ensembles.

Principals then presented examples of student service and school improvement. Blades Elementary principal Dr. Jeremy Booker and assistant principal Dr. Shelly Woodworth described student council fundraising that delivered monetary donations to local fire stations, the American Red Cross and a children’s hospital unit. Hageman Elementary principal Dr. Samantha Gatzemeyer reported enrollment and assessment figures and described intervention blocks, professional learning community (PLC) expectations and targets for improved student belonging and proficiency through May 2026.

Why it matters: The presentations framed district performance as multifaceted — academic results and extracurricular honors — and provided measurable outcomes used for district planning, community engagement and the strategic plan update expected next month.
