City updates: building-permitting town hall, Parks events and weekly police statistics

The meeting opened with community announcements and public-safety updates. Brian McCain, introduced as chief of staff, invited the public to a Town Hall on the Southern Colorado Building Department (formerly the Pueblo Regional Building Department) and said an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Boone will transition permitting, inspections and related services beginning Jan. 1, 2026.

Parks and Recreation announced a youth basketball skills challenge on Jan. 10, 2026 (registration required; deadline Jan. 7). City staff also said Fire Station 6 at 111 Victory Lane will open Friday and will serve Pueblo’s East Side.

The Police Department reported statistics for Nov. 27–Dec. 3: 2,274 calls for service, 1,008 dispatched calls, an average of about 144 calls per day (roughly six per hour), a year‑over‑year Part 1 crime decrease of about 5 percent, and other figures on DICE team activity, citations and recovered property. Officials urged residents not to leave running, unattended vehicles and noted increases in loitering citations this year.

A council member reported a tent encampment on 13th Street that staff said had been observed and removed. The council then moved to scheduled presentations.
