Coos County awards $39,650 contract to replace Powers Park sewer line

Coos County commissioners voted to award a $39,650 contract to Tri County Plumbing to replace a failing sewer line at Powers Park.

County staff explained the line is roughly 600 feet of older ceramic pipe that serves restroom facilities at the park and suffers root intrusion, cracks and dips. Rather than a full open trench replacement, Tri County Plumbing will pull a new pipe through the existing line — a method staff said avoids deep trenching and extensive excavation. The presenter said the project was already included in the county capital line item.

During discussion staff and commissioners asked technical questions about pipe diameter changes, flow capacity through dips and the type of pipe joints; the presenter said a 4-inch line would be pulled and connected to an existing 8-inch section where needed and that the ABS and gasketed bell joints used should maintain gravity flow.

A motion to approve the contract with Tri County Plumbing for $39,650 was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote. The board’s action was taken as a contract award; staff did not read a project start date in the public record and will need to confirm schedule and contractor insurance and permitting requirements.

A commissioner praised park operations during subsequent remarks.
