Committees split on $5,000 for site-readiness evaluation; EEEDC approves, HRFPC tie sends matter to full Board

Supervisors debated whether Marathon County should fund a $5,000 site-readiness and industry-targeting evaluation led by Senergy (also referred to in the packet as a multi-county initiative). The Extension Education & Economic Development Committee voted in favor of reconsideration and approved the funding request by voice.

In the Human Resources Finance & Property Committee, Supervisor Pool argued against county funding, stating: “I don't think it's within the scope of what county government should be doing.” Supporters countered that statutes allow county economic-development activity and cited historical county participation in development efforts.

HRFPC proceeded to a roll-call vote; the motion resulted in a tie and therefore failed in that committee. Administrator Leonard confirmed staff could pursue special-project funding internally if the full Board directed that approach. Because of the split committee outcome, staff will forward the recommendation and the committees’ record to the full County Board for a final decision.
