Coos County parks report surge in reservations, board approves updated position

The Coos County Board of Commissioners recognized Tammy Hagan for 25 years of service and approved an updated job description and a posting for a full‑time parks office specialist as the department prepares for a pending retirement.

Craig, speaking for Parks, introduced Tammy and credited her with leading the department’s move to a reservations system that has materially increased revenue. Parks staff provided a five‑year comparison showing substantial increases in both camping nights and fee revenue: “In 2013, that's when we started our reservation system... for that fiscal year, we generated $522,000 in park fees alone. In 2025 fiscal year, we generated 1,964,000 in park fees,” a parks representative said, adding that camping nights rose from about 22,312 in 2020 to 45,265 in fiscal 2025.

Commissioners discussed the department’s ability to operate with relatively few added positions despite revenue growth and approved a revised job description for parks specialist/office specialist and permission to post and fill the position. One commissioner noted union approval of the change where relevant; the board approved the posting by voice vote.

The plaque presentation and staff comments framed the staffing action as part of broader operational changes driven by the reservation system and revenue growth. Moving forward, the department will post the updated job description and proceed with recruitment.
