Danville teachers log thousands of hours in district micro‑credential program

Doctor Babalola told the Danville Public Schools Board on Nov. 13 that the district’s micro‑credential program is designed to provide personalized, job‑embedded professional learning for teachers and is aligned with the district’s staff growth goal.

"The minimum commitment is 15 hours," Babalola said, adding that badges correspond to milestone levels: 15 hours (professional), 30 hours (mastery), 45 hours (specialist) and 60 hours (expert). Babalola reported 6,721 total hours completed across the division as of Nov. 7 and said George Washington High School had the most hours at about 1,500.

Two teachers described classroom impacts. Miss Brandon (Woodbury) said she completed modules in small daily steps and then applied strategies in Professional Learning Community meetings. "I actually learned something in my video that I'm gonna show you tomorrow in our PLC," she said. Miss Noreen (George Washington High) said she has used cross‑curriculum strategies and credited the format for being "focused, flexible, and practical." Several teachers present said they had completed 30, 45 or 60 hours and the board recognized those educators.

Babalola said some teacher registrations did not initially map to schools because staff used personal emails; those hours will be reassigned once teachers notify the district. Staff emphasized the Feb. 26, 2026 deadline for the minimum requirement and said recertification points are available through the program.

The board paused to take photos and publicly commended the teachers; no formal board action was taken on the item.
