Board approves early-notification incentive to help recruit teachers

The Fayetteville Board of Education approved a tiered early-notification incentive designed to encourage staff to give advance notice of planned departures so the district can recruit earlier. The motion passed 7–0.

Greg Monness, who presented the proposal, said the program had been used in prior years and helped the district identify openings earlier. "If you let us know by that first working Friday in January, we would offer an incentive at the end of your contract of $1,500. And if you let us know of your intention to leave at the end of the year by that last Friday in January, it's a $750 incentive," Monness said, explaining the two-tiered approach.

Monness emphasized the incentive is not a buyout but a recruitment tool to help the district target hiring and to better staff key positions ahead of job fairs. Board members discussed timing and clarified the incentive would not apply to board members; the measure was approved on a motion and second and recorded as passing 7–0.

Administration said the incentive will align with the district's February job fair and that additional details will be provided as implementation proceeds.
