At the Lancaster ISD regular meeting, resident Denise Kirby used the public-comment period to describe what she said was a disappointing and exclusionary outcome at a recent 'Dads and Donuts' event where many fathers were turned away despite having proper identification or preregistration.
Kirby said the incident caused distress for a child in her family and urged the district to create contingency plans so that students do not miss the chance to see family members participate in events. She said registration processes were unorganized, that unregistered family members and some preregistered people were denied access, and that staff did not appropriately acknowledge or accommodate the family’s needs.
The superintendent’s earlier remarks and campus presentations in the same meeting emphasized that Lancaster campuses host many family engagement events — "donuts for dads," "muffins for mom," grandparents lunches, veterans programs and other activities — and staff asked families to review campus newsletters and district communications for schedules and volunteer opportunities.
The transcript does not show an immediate district remediation or a specific commitment from campus administrators during the meeting. Board members thanked the speaker for sharing her concerns and the board moved on to recognitions and other agenda items.
