Speaker 2, Arts & Culture Committee member, told the group that Hoya Park's grand opening is scheduled for "November 4th" and that management elected to paint the restroom rather than wrap it. Staff asked the committee for elements, concepts and themes to include on the mural that would complement the park.
Committee members said the timeline is tight. Speaker 7 described the schedule as "crazy" and urged the committee to get meaningful input to ensure community representation; Speaker 7 also said the process had "completely missed involving 40,000 Farmers Branch residents" if public input is not sought. Members discussed design options including a family of colors usable in day and night conditions, geometric forms to contrast the park's many circular elements, and nonrepresentational or abstract approaches that still reflect the park's multicultural community.
What staff and committee agreed: Speaker 2 said Maria (staff) will provide renderings and reach out to committee members for feedback; the committee collected a bulleted list of preferred elements—24-color family for day/night, profiles/character faces, shadows/tracing outlines, geometric contrast and multicultural symbolism—and asked staff to share proposed renderings before finalization. Several members emphasized the need for the committee and, where possible, public input before art is finalized.
Next steps: Staff will send renderings to the committee for review; members requested a short feedback window to incorporate committee suggestions before painting begins.
