Speaker 2 told the Historical Preservation and Restoration Board that construction of the new events center is nearly finished but a back-order on the building's "nano wall" glass doors is delaying a formal completion date. "They haven't given us a specific final date," Speaker 2 said, adding that staff are continuing weekly walkthroughs.
The board was told staff is targeting the first weekend in May for an RL Turner rental and expects a wedding booking at the end of May, which sets practical completion goals. "We're looking we do have, the 1st weekend in May," Speaker 2 said. Speaker 2 also noted the April 6 boards-and-commission dinner will be held at the Renaissance (the former Omni) and encouraged board attendance.
Speaker 2 said staff will hold a VIP event for board members, volunteers and docents once the construction completion date is confirmed. No new firm completion date was announced during the meeting; Speaker 2 said only that the delayed glass doors are "on their way." The board reiterated plans for a site walkthrough once city sign-offs and code inspections are complete.
Next steps: staff will notify board members when the contractor confirms a final completion date and will place any proposed changes to the April meeting schedule or a tour on the April agenda for a vote if necessary.
