Bruceville-Eddy — Police Chief Michael Dorsey briefed the council on department activity and a Sept. 13 incident at the intermediate school in which a 10-year-old student allegedly punched another student and made a verbal threat about a gun. The department said no weapon was found on campus, the school did not lock down, and officers were on scene within minutes.
The chief said the parent of the victim sought charges and the juvenile was taken to a juvenile detention facility; the department filed assault and terroristic threat charges. Dorsey said the department would standardize a joint public information statement with the school district for future incidents so parents receive coordinated and timely information.
Chief Dorsey also presented August police statistics (135 calls for service, 9 offenses/arrests, 260 citations) and an ordinance-enforcement snapshot showing elevated citation activity driven by daily citations on chronic properties; he announced the department’s second annual Blue Santa event set for Dec. 21.
What’s next: The department will coordinate its information releases with the ISD and continue school resource officer activity and neighborhood enforcement work.
