Board members voted unanimously at this meeting to clarify how the district evaluates progress on its strategic goals, requiring a single annual review in the spring.
During discussion of a proposed update to the ADA district goals and objectives policy, Speaker 12 moved “to replace the word regularly with the word annually evaluate. Just swap those two words.” The motion was seconded by Speaker 3 and prompted follow-up discussion about timing and alignment with the superintendent’s evaluation process.
Speaker 3 offered a friendly amendment to specify timing and to remove language about adopting policies: “The board will annually, in the spring, evaluate progress toward meeting the goals, designed to facilitate their accomplishment.” The amendment also deleted the sentence that had directed the board to “adopt appropriate policies” in favor of more general action steps. The board accepted the friendly amendment and voted; the amendment and the policy change passed unanimously.
Board members said the change is intended to harmonize board review with the superintendent’s annual goal-setting and evaluation timeline and to provide clearer expectations for when progress will be considered. The board then approved the package of basic policy updates (new business A1) that included the edited language.
The policy now directs an annual spring review of district goals; the board did not schedule additional specific dates beyond that annual reference, and staff indicated the change will be reflected in future materials and evaluation timelines.
