Board swears in Dr. Daling Tsai; elects officers for 2025

At the Nov. 8 meeting President Sonia Early formally introduced and administered the oath to Daling Tsai, the board’s newest member appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. Dr. Tsai repeated the oath and thanked the board; staff and members welcomed him.

Board counsel opened nominations for 2025 board officers. Two candidates were nominated for president; both made statements highlighting experience and plans for defending the board in the upcoming sunset review. After member statements and a brief period for questions, the board conducted a roll-call vote. The chair announced that member Kidd was elected president for 2025. The board separately nominated and elected member Arminta as vice president; members emphasized teamwork for the coming sunset process.

Members used the election discussion to emphasize priorities for the coming year, particularly the sunset review and legislative outreach in Sacramento. The board closed the public portion of the meeting and moved into scheduled closed session items later in the agenda.
