Special meeting tentatively set Sept. 30 to continue superintendent evaluation

Unidentified Speaker 1, a meeting participant, announced after emerging from closed session that the group had decided to hold a special called meeting on September 30 at 6:00 p.m. “to continue and hopefully finalize our discussion on the superintendent's evaluation process,” they said.

The speaker said the group had used the earlier session to brief two new board members on the evaluation process but lacked a few documents necessary to set evaluation criteria. “We are going to ask for a couple of documents to pass along, because we didn't have access to those,” the same speaker said, adding the committee hoped to review the materials and move forward at the special meeting.

Participants discussed whether a formal motion was required to set the date; one participant said a motion was not needed. They agreed the date and agenda must be advertised in advance and that the advertised agenda would indicate the meeting would go into closed session. One speaker noted scheduling constraints (including fall break) and said the Sept. 30 date may be adjusted if necessary.

Earlier in the session, a motion was made and seconded to return to regular session; a voice vote was taken and an affirmative 'Aye' was recorded. Later, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded and closed with a voice vote. Unidentified Speaker 1 stated the group left closed session at 8:16 p.m. and recorded aloud, “Motion by Scott, second by Gabe,” and also said “No action,” indicating no additional board action was taken at that time.

Next steps recorded in the meeting: staff or participants will compile and distribute the requested documents ahead of the special called meeting; the date is to be advertised and formally confirmed in the days before Sept. 30 if the date holds.
