The Flint Board of Education on the evening of the meeting approved a two-year contract with the United Teachers of Flint (UTF) by a 5–0 roll-call vote, with two trustees absent.
President Mike McNeal moved the meeting into a closed session earlier to discuss attorney‑client privileged matters. After reopening the special meeting, a motion to approve the UTF contract was made and seconded; the board then conducted a roll-call vote. Trustees who voted “yes” were Trustee Rutherford, Trustee King, Vice President McIntyre, Secretary Perkins and President McNeal; two trustees were recorded as absent. The chair announced the vote as “5 yes, 2 absent, 0 no.”
Before the closed session, Karen Christian, president of the United Teachers of Flint, addressed the board and said she was thankful for the bargaining process and hoped for a positive outcome so the district and teachers could move forward under the two‑year agreement. “We hope that as you go into closed session that we have a positive outcome when you come out so that we can have this two‑year agreement that we have collaboratively come to,” she said.
The board clerk read the official roll-call result after members answered for the record. The special meeting adjourned shortly after the contract vote.
