CORPUS CHRISTI — The commissioners voted to contract with HireRight for county background checks and to approve a $5,000 integration cost to connect HireRight with the county's Workday human-resources system.
Tim from Human Resources explained the selection after evaluating several vendors that could integrate with Workday. Staff estimated the county would run about 300 candidate background checks annually (excluding the sheriff's department, which conducts its own law-enforcement checks) and provided an initial cost estimate of roughly $17,724 for the first year.
Tim said the goal is to create consistency across county departments and ensure workplace safety and credential verification: "We estimate currently about 300," he said, adding that the initial estimate for cost was around "$17,724." Commissioners discussed funding (county general fund employee-benefits account for the current year and a request in next year's budget) and implementation timing. Staff said checks would normally be run on candidates who have been selected (conditional offers) rather than for every applicant to limit volume and cost.
The court approved both the HireRight contract selection and the Workday-integration cost. Commissioners asked HR and the auditor to clear funding lines for current-year costs and to include the recurring line in the FY202324 budget request.
What happens next: HR will finalize the agreement with HireRight, implement the Workday integration, and begin running checks for selected candidates. The auditor will work with HR to identify funding for this fiscal year and to include the recurring costs in the next fiscal year's budget request.
